With the existing COVID-19 situation, in-person sessions continue to not take place until further notice. During this time we will be offering several Zoom/virtual sessions. Please check our list below.

January 15, 2020:  Annual General Meeting + “Le Jardin de Francois”  Presented by Susan Marshall
Location: NOTE: Teen Lounge (upstairs) at the Beaconsfield Rec Centre, 174 City Lane, Beaconsfield
Time:   7:30pm-9:00pm. Please arrive by 7:15pm. 

The evening will begin with our Annual General Meeting (AGM) which will include a review of the club’s finances and a vote on the Executive members. The AGM  will be followed by photos and commentary by Susan Marshall on “Les Jardins de Francois’, a St. Sauveur garden she visited this summer.

Please note that the re-opening of the Herb Linder Annex has been delayed and our January locale is at the Beaconsfield Rec Centre for this occasion only.


February 12, 2020:  “Selecting and Caring For Indoor Plants”  Presented by Francois Dubois of Jasmin Nursery

Location: Herb Linder Annex, 303 Beaconsfield Blvd.
Time: 7:30pm-9:00pm. Please arrive by 7:15pm.

Container plants are a wonderful way to liven up any living space. Possibilities abound!  Francois Dubois of Jasmin Nursery will provide tips and info on choosing that next house plant you’re looking for, whether it’s something easy-care, tall-and-dramatic or something new on the market to get you excited.

March 11, 2020: ” Welcome to Gannaiden – Garden of Possibilities ”  Presented by Elaine Steinberg
Location: Herb Linder Annex, 303 Beaconsfield Blvd.
Time: 7:30pm-9:00pm. Please arrive by 7:15pm.
Elaine Steinberg will present an overview of Gannaiden and a few tips and tricks on her  ‘design-maintenance’ program. Started as a private family garden in Vaudreuil-Dorion, Gannaiden opened to the public in 2017 as a sculpture-garden, with works by her husband, well-known Canadian sculptor Marcel Braitstein.  “Hands on the land is important to me. I have always wanted to grow old gardening.”

March 28-29, 2020:  External Event  –  Orchidexpo 2020  CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19 SITUATION
Location: Collège Maisonneuve
Time:  March 28: 12:00 – 6pm; March 29: 9am – 5pm
A wide range of exhibitors come to this international exhibition to display their exquisite flowering orchids.  It also attracts members of orchid societies, florists, artists and photographers.

April 8, 2020:   “Making Your Garden a Living Space”  Presented by Sara Cherry of Chic It Up  CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19 SITUATION
Location: Herb Linder Annex, 303 Beaconsfield Blvd.
Time: 7:30pm-9:00pm. Please arrive by 7:15pm.
Sara Cherry is a professional home stager and re-designer.  This evening she turns her creative flair to the garden. Her own beautiful back garden mixes plants, hardscape, furniture and a “privacy fence” with plants. Come hear her advice on how to help make a back garden into a true outdoor living space to enjoy with family and friends.

May 9, 2020:   Spring Plant Sale at Centennial Hall  CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19 SITUATION 
Location: Centennial Hall, 288 Beaconsfield Blvd.
Time: 10am 

We are selling many different plants from our members’ gardens.  Arrive early as plants go quickly – we often sell out by 11:00.

 

 


May 13, 2020:  ”The Healing Power of Cannabis”  Presented by Mark Reynolds of Naughty Nettle Medicinals  CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19 SITUATION
Location: Herb Linder Annex, 303 Beaconsfield Blvd.
Time: 7:30pm-9:00pm. Please arrive by 7:15pm.

Naughty Nettle Medicinals aims to educate and empower others to the methods of herbal medicine. Mark is in his third year of organic medicinal farming in Quebec, and has given workshops on holistic health, fermentation, hydroponics and herbal medicine. We will learn about the cannabis plant, including its healing power and medicinal benefits.

October 6, 2020:   Externally Hosted Zoom Session “Tower Garden”  presented by nutrition consultant Susan Campbell-Fournel
Location: N/A
Time:  8:30 PM Eastern Time 

Join Susan as she provides an introduction to the Tower Garden. This interesting option allows year-round gardening in your home, for a safe and sustainable supply of produce.

The invitation to this session is included in an email sent to you recently “Zoom meeting reminder and other items”.

October 7, 2020:   BGC Hosted Zoom Session  “We Visit the Tulip”  presented by member Catherine Vallejo
Location: N/A
Time: For those not familiar with Zoom, please log in at 6:45 pm. Otherwise please log in at 7pm.  The session will begin at 7:10 pm.

This talk covers the historical origins of the tulip, its history in Holland and its important connection with Canada. It will also cover how to plant and care for the bulbs. Catherine was born in Holland during World War II and came from a family of gardeners. She has always gardened with great enthusiasm and has been taking distance horticulture classes at Guelph University for many years.  Given her background, she has of course a great interest in tulips!

January 15 & 21, 2021:  Externally Hosted Facebook Event: “Discussion about Bioregionalism: Follow-up to Film: Hochelaga, Terres des Âmes” presented by the McGill Permaculture Club

Whether you watched the film or not, join the McGill Permaculture Club to discuss the meaning behind Hochelaga, Terre des Âmes as well as the broader meaning of bioregionalism. We will discuss how bioregional governance can be an effective tool to collectively manage resources.
